Gardone Riviera and the Vittoriale

Gardone Riviera and the Vittoriale degli Italiani

Gardone Riviera, also called “Garden-City”, is about 30 min. from the Hotel Porta del Sole and owes its fame above all to the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the house-museum of Gabriele D’Annunzio

This enchanting and green town on the Brescia shore of Lake Garda is home to elegant period buildings and villas. Do not miss the Heller Garden, the botanical garden of the André Heller Foundation, with around 3000 species of plants from all over the world and works of art by Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Auguste Rodin, Fernand Leger and many others.

Dominating the upper part of the village is the imposing complex of the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the Monumental Citadel that the poet Vate set up from 1921 to 1938 and where it welcomes a large number of visitors every year. Not just a house but a collection of buildings, streets, squares, theatres, gardens, parks and waterways, a real “city within a city”.

The Vittoriale and its monumental park offer different itineraries for visits, with online purchase and booking. The visit to the House of G. d’Annunzio is compulsory guided and lasts about 35 minutes.

The auditorium hosts numerous shows, and every summer since 1952, the Festival del Vittoriale brings the greatest national and international artists to the stage en plan air.
